Catholic Education Week May 2-6
A Reflection for Catholic Education Week
May 1-6, 2016 marks Catholic Education Week throughout the province of Ontario. Our Board is celebrating the theme “Act Justly – Opening Doors of Mercy” to mark the Year of Mercy and our Board’s spiritual theme focus for this year.
Pope Francis has declared 2016 a “Holy Year of Mercy” as a way for the Catholic Church to “make more evident, its mission to be a witness of mercy”. The Holy Year began on December 8, 2015 and will be celebrated until November 20, 2016. On December 8t Pope Francis opened the Vatican’s Holy Door to evoke the concept of God’s infinite love. In his first Angelus address back on March 17, 2013, Pope Francis said “A bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just.”
Parents, grandparents, family members, neighbours and parishioners are invited to join us in celebrating the great gift of Catholic education. We will be highlighting the first week of May with a variety of activities that include a Faith Fair, liturgies and other celebrations.
The following events will take place in our school that week.

Catholic Education Week Prayer
God of love and compassion,
help us to act justly and open the door of mercy in our school communities,
in our families and in the world.
Let justice and mercy guide our living and bring us closer to the heart of the gospel.
May we live as Jesus with love that calls us to action, and mercy that welcomes and forgives.
May our lives be a living witness of your love. We ask this is Jesus’ name. Amen.
